British Airways has recently launched two brand-new routes, with inaugural flights departing from London to St. Louis, Missouri, and Guernsey in the Channel Islands, in April 2026.
St. Louis has become the 27th American city on the British Airways network and the airline's first direct service to the city in more than 20 years. It also means BA now serves more direct US routes than any other European airline. Guernsey, meanwhile, now has its first-ever direct link to London Heathrow.
Both routes are now live on the British Airways flight map, and available for reward seat bookings.
St. Louis: Background and Context

St. Louis has long been known as the 'Gateway to the West,' a title it earned through its history as the starting point for westward expansion across North America, and symbolised by the iconic Gateway Arch that dominates the city's skyline. British Airways is the only UK airline to fly there direct, and the timing of the relaunch is anything but accidental.
2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Route 66, the historic highway that begins in Chicago and passes through St. Louis on its way to Santa Monica. It also sits within the US-wide celebrations marking 250 years of American independence. A British airline reconnecting with an American city in a year defined by two of the United States' most culturally resonant milestones gives the launch added context beyond the route itself.
British Airways even marked the occasion with a touch of wordplay: the entire inaugural crew was made up of people named Louis, Lewis or Louise.
What’s more, Kansas City (one of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup this summer) is a short drive from St. Louis. British football supporters and international travellers routing through Heathrow no longer need to take a domestic connecting flight through a larger US hub. St. Louis now offers a direct gateway into the heart of the Midwest, with no transfer required.
Overview of the Flight Schedule

The British Airways flight schedule for St. Louis runs four times a week from London Heathrow Terminal 5, operating during the summer season on a Boeing 787 that’s currently being fitted with Starlink satellite Wi-Fi. Three cabin options are available:
- World Traveller (Economy)
- World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy)
- Club World (Business Class)
Passengers flying Club World on selected departures will have access to the latest BA Club Suite seat, with direct aisle access, a fully flat bed, and a 17-inch entertainment screen. Dining follows a brasserie-style menu with freshly prepared starters, mains, desserts, and cheeses. Return cash fares on the route start from £529.
Daily Year-Round Connection to Guernsey
Guernsey joined the British Airways route map on the same day, becoming the only direct link between the Channel Island and London Heathrow. Unlike the St. Louis service, the Guernsey route runs daily year-round.
This should make life a lot easier for anyone in Guernsey. Previously, reaching long-haul destinations via Heathrow required either a connection through another UK airport or a sea journey. A direct daily service to Terminal 5 now places Guernsey within easy reach of British Airways' entire worldwide route map.
The inaugural flight also had a personal touch. The captain and four cabin crew members either grew up in Guernsey or have close family ties to the island. Passengers on the first service were served Guernsey Gâche Mèlèe on board, a traditional apple dessert with roots in the island's food heritage.

What These Routes Mean for Avios Collectors
Both new routes are bookable using British Airways flight rewards. St. Louis gives Avios collectors a new long-haul redemption option on a three-cabin Boeing 787. The Guernsey route, running daily year-round, gives collectors a flexible short-haul option from Heathrow with no need to connect through another airport.
Neil Chernoff, Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, British Airways, said, "It's always a proud moment when we see a new route take to the skies, after months of careful planning. These two new destinations offer our customers even more choice and opportunities to explore, whether that's across the Atlantic to America's mid-West, or a short hop off the coast to the Channel Islands, there's a breadth of options for travellers looking to get away this summer holiday season."
The Move is Part of a Larger US Push

The St. Louis launch is part of a wider reinforcement of British Airways' transatlantic position for summer 2026. In addition to the new route, the airline has also announced:
- Double-daily service returning to Miami
- Daily flights resuming to Dallas-Fort Worth
- Las Vegas frequency increasing from 10 to 13 flights per week
- San Diego and Austin both operating 14 times per week
- New York JFK operating exclusively from Heathrow, with nine daily flights, including a new service on the 777-200 fleet featuring First and BA Club Suite
Final Thoughts
New routes usually mean a short window where reward availability is at its most generous before the algorithms catch up and the seats disappear. St. Louis is especially the one to watch. It's a new long-haul route with potential for BA Club Suite and relatively low initial demand compared to the usual US heavyweights. Guernsey is less about glamour and more about utility, but a daily Heathrow connection is great if you like to piece itineraries together. So, it's a good moment to have a look, set a few Alerts, and see what appears over the next few weeks.
