Looking to expand your travel horizons in 2023? Qatar Airways has just made an exciting announcement that’s sure to excite travellers everywhere. In a move that improves connectivity to other global destinations, the Middle Eastern carrier has announced 7 new destinations, 11 route resumptions, and frequency increases on 35 routes.

This comes after the airline replaced its QMiles reward currency with Qatar Airways Avios in 2022, meaning you can now redeem Avios reward flights with the airline. These changes mean even more options for travellers, with access to a wider range of global hot spots to redeem your Avios points for flights. With so many new destinations and flight options, the possibilities for your next adventure are virtually endless.

Let's look closely at what Qatar Airways has in store for the year ahead. From new locations to more choices for flights, there's a lot to be tempted by for globetrotters looking to explore the world in 2023.

 

New Destinations

Qatar Airways will be operating flights to seven new destinations from its hub at Doha International Airport, including: 

  1. Chittagong, Bangladesh
  2. Juba, South Sudan
  3. Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo
  4. Lyon, France
  5. Medan, Indonesia
  6. Trabzon, Turkey
  7. Toulouse, France

 

These new routes will be launched throughout the year, with Trabzon being the first one on June 16th. If you're planning a trip to any of these destinations, make sure to keep an eye out for Qatar Airways' launch dates.

 

Route Resumptions

The Covid-19 pandemic had a significant impact on air travel, causing many routes to be suspended. Qatar Airways is now in the process of resuming 11 routes, some of which are listed below:

  1. Nice: resuming on May 9
  2. Tokyo Haneda: resuming on  June 1
  3. Birmingham: resuming on July 10
  4. Phnom Penh: resuming on October 29
  5. Ras Al Haima: resuming on November 1
  6. Buenos Aires: resuming on December 8
  7. Osaka: resuming on March 1, 2024

 

The expanded Qatar Airways network puts very different cities in reach, like old-town Nice, futuristic Tokyo and restless Buenos Aires. Passengers can look forward to travelling to these exciting locations with reward flights using Qatar Airways Avios points.  And with the airline’s commitment to safety and comfort, travellers can rest easy knowing they're in good hands.

Increased Frequency

The most exciting news for UK-based travellers is that London Heathrow and London Gatwick will see an increase in weekly flight frequencies from 42 to 45 and 7 to 14, respectively. This increase in frequency will allow point collectors to have more choices for their Avios reward flights when flying to and from London.
