Let's face it, part of the joy of travel is that pre-flight anticipation which becomes even more delightful when lounging in an oasis of luxury before take-off. Airport lounges don't just offer a seat; they promise a little bubble of tranquillity in the midst of the travel hustle.

While British Airways lounges offer a quintessentially British experience, did you know your Avios are your boarding pass to a slice of Middle Eastern hospitality with a Qatar Airways flight booking? That's right. Your Avios aren't exclusive to British Airways, they also come with the luxury of Qatar Airways Avios flights

In this guide, we'll walk you through the plush interiors of Qatar Airways' top lounges, detailing the amenities they offer and who gets to stroll through their doors. And it's not just us raving about these sanctuaries of relaxation. We've included snippets from other travellers who've lounged and loved it.

Here is a list of Qatar Airways' finest lounges, ranked according to traveller preference and rating:

Al Safwa First Lounge - Doha Airport

Picture this: you've just touched down at Doha Airport and you've got a couple of hours to spare before your next flight. Instead of resigning yourself to a run-of-the-mill airport experience, you find yourself in an inviting sanctuary away from the crowd - the Al Safwa First Lounge. This isn't your everyday lounge. It's more of an architectural marvel that meets a relaxation haven, decked out with modern design elements that tip their hat to traditional Arabic influences.

So what's in store for you at Al Safwa? Well, if you fancy a quick shower or some shuteye, they've got private shower suites and quiet rooms. And if your stomach is rumbling louder than the aircraft engines, there's a fine dining restaurant and buffet to keep your hunger at bay. You could also lose yourself in a film in their cinema room or walk around the in-house museum. Yes, you read that right - there's a museum inside the airport lounge!

Access to this haven is exclusive to First Class passengers and Qatar Privilege Club Platinum members flying on Qatar Airways or other Oneworld airlines. Those in Business Class can also pay a fee to upgrade their lounge experience.

Reviews from globe-trotters paint a picture of a lounge that's a cut above the rest. Thrifty Traveler said, “After spending eight hours here on a recent layover, I have a hard time seeing how any lounge could beat it.” NerdWallet calls it “a true luxury.” According to Live and Let's Fly, it’s “an architectural masterpiece with superb amenities and a quiet ambiance,” while Prince of Travel says, “The Al Safwa Lounge’s minimalistic interior aesthetic was an instant favourite. The private nap rooms fulfill every need you might have for an extended stay, while the spa provided me with an unforgettable maiden experience of a soaking in a hot tub in an airport lounge.”

Al Mourjan Lounge - Doha Airport

A jaw-dropping expanse of over two-and-a-half acres, this lounge is like an airport terminal in its own right, yet feels miles away from the typical airport experience. Here, you'll find not just the largest water feature at an airport lounge worldwide, but also a host of amenities designed to make your transit an absolute breeze. Expect elaborate seating areas with tablet computers at every seat, a state-of-the-art business centre, private quarters for families, shower suites, game rooms, sleeping areas, and even a dedicated prayer space.

Access to this sanctuary is reserved for Qatar Airways and Oneworld first and Business class passengers, making it an exclusive space to relax and recharge before your onward journey.

Here's what seasoned travellers have to say. According to Lounge Review, "It’s the ultimate showcase piece,” while The Points Guy says, "Al Mourjan consists of many individual spaces, all comfortable and pleasant to look at." Inside Flyer says, "You can’t help but be impressed when you enter the Al Mourjan Business Lounge… This is probably the most stunning lounge I’ve ever seen," and according to Executive Traveller, "This expansive lounge is one that’ll have you crossing fingers for a delayed flight."

Gold Lounge - Doha Airport

An impressive, oblong sanctuary with a seating capacity for 85 passengers, the Gold Lounge offers a variety of seating options, making it easy to find your own corner to relax in. A well-stocked bar promises to quench your thirst, while the dining area and buffet offer a range of culinary delights. For those who wish to freshen up after a long journey, the lounge features shower facilities. Of course, in this digital age, the lounge is equipped with complimentary wifi, keeping you connected.

Access is granted to Qatar Airways Gold members, as well as Oneworld Sapphire members, including British Airways Executive Club Silver cardholders, even those flying in Economy or on a 'Business Light' no-lounge ticket.

Here’s what travellers have to say about the Gold Lounge. According to Airlines and Me, "The Gold lounge has shower facilities but there is no quiet room. The lounge itself is considered quiet if you are seated further away from the buffet bar." Head for Points says, "If you’re a British Airways Executive Club Silver member flying on an Economy Qatar Airways or other Oneworld ticket (or on a Business Light ‘no lounge’ cash ticket) then this is a more than acceptable place to spend time. It will make your Doha stopover far more palatable if you have no interest in hitting the shops."

London Heathrow Premium Lounge - London Heathrow Airport

Conveniently located at one of the world's busiest airports, the London Heathrow Premium Lounge in Terminal 4 may not be the largest, but offers more than just a comfy spot to wait for your flight. Think less 'airport lounge' and more 'exclusive club meets boutique hotel.’ You might even forget you're at the airport.

When you walk in, there’s no regular reception desk in sight. Instead, you're guided into the Palm Court, a space where the gentle murmur of Arabian water fountains will make you feel like you've just stepped into an oasis. The experience continues with greeters armed with iPads, picking up on your needs like they're reading your mind. It's a personalised, award-winning service characteristic of the Qatari spirit.

The lounge's hospitality extends to dining options as well, with an exquisite selection of meals and drinks that allows you to dine lavishly before your flight. Whether you're keen on grabbing a quick snack or indulging in a full meal, the options are diverse and delectable.

Access to the London Heathrow Premium Lounge is open to Qatar Airways and Oneworld First and Business Class passengers and Qatar Privilege Club Platinum and Gold members.

As for what fellow travellers have to say about the lounge, the reviews speak volumes. According to Executive Traveller, "It's quite a relaxing one – and with great pre-flight dining options, you'll be able to get on board and go straight to sleep if that's your plan." Simple Flying says, "The hospitality of this lounge had a true Qatari spirit. The attentiveness, variety, and splendour of the service were evident throughout the whole visit." The Luxury Traveller stated, "This lounge more than lived up to expectations. I’d been told beforehand that this was more akin to a First Class facility and I found that to be exactly the case. The decor, personalised service and drinks are indisputably at that level."

Frequent Flyer Lounge - London Heathrow Airport

Designed with the seasoned traveller in mind, this lounge offers a range of amenities tailored to meet the needs of those who live on the go. As you settle into the plush seating, you'll find various features designed to make your pre-flight hours more enjoyable. Whether you fancy a quiet spot to catch up on work, a place to refuel with a delicious bite, or just a corner to relax with a good book, the Frequent Flyer Lounge has got you covered. You'll also find charging points at every turn, so you can ensure all your devices are powered up for your journey.

Access to the Frequent Flyer Lounge is extended to Qatar Airways Privilege Club Gold and Silver members and other Oneworld Sapphire members who’re travelling on a scheduled Qatar Airways or Oneworld marketed and operated flight. And if you're a British Airways Executive Club Silver or Gold member with Avios, this is another lounge you can gain access to for that slice of luxury before your flight.

Don't just take our word for it, here’s what travellers have to say. According to Head for Points, there’s “high praise for the food, which appears to be overseen by high-end caterers Do&Co… It’s easily equal to the British Airways Galleries Club lounge and in places on a par with BA’s Galleries First.” Lounge Review says that it “features an elegant and modern design that is somewhat reminiscent of Qatar Airways’ flagship lounges in Doha. The space boasts floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the tarmac,” and according to Turning Left for Less, the lounge is “a cut above BA’s Club lounges in terms of food and probably more akin to their First lounge which is for Gold cardholders.”

So how can you access these incredible lounges? Simply secure a Qatar Airways flight booking through Qatar Airways Avios or any Oneworld partner airline, and these premium experiences will be ready to welcome you.
