Exciting update for Avios collectors. Choice Hotels has teamed up with IAG Loyalty to launch a new partnership that lets you convert your Choice Privileges points into Avios. This means members can now use their hotel stays to find flights on some of the world’s leading airlines.
Details of the Partnership
Choice Privileges members can convert their points with a simple conversion rate: 5,000 Choice Privileges points get you 1,000 Avios. This means that if you have 5,000 points from staying at any Choice Hotels property, you can now turn those hotel points into 1,000 Avios points and use them to pay for flights. These points can be credited to accounts associated with British Airways Club, Club Iberia Plus, or Aer Lingus AerClub.
Avios is accepted across five major airlines: Aer Lingus, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, and Qatar Airways. This allows you to shuffle your points among these carriers as you please, picking the perfect airline for each journey. This kind of flexibility adds more value to your points and provides more ways to travel internationally. It also gives you more ways to utilise BA reward flight availability.
Comparison with Other Hotel Groups
Choice Hotels isn't the only hotel chain that lets you convert points to Avios, but their new offer adds to a growing list of options for travellers. For context, here’s how it stacks up:
- Accor’s ALL programme starts conversions at 4,000 points for 2,000 Avios.
- Hilton Honors requires at least 10,000 points for 1,000 Avios.
- IHG One Rewards offers 2,000 Avios for 10,000 points.
- Marriott Bonvoy allows 3,000 Avios for 9,000 points.
- MeliaRewards offers one of the best rates at 30 Avios for every 100 points.
- Radisson Rewards provides 200 Avios for 2,000 points.
This variety gives loyal travellers multiple ways to turn stays into air travel, but Choice’s new partnership is particularly appealing for those heavily invested in the Avios programme.
With Avios now added to the roster, Choice becomes the 11th airline partner for the hotelier, joining others like Alaska Airlines and United Airlines. This expansion broadens Choice Privileges points’ utility and cements Choice Hotels’ position as a versatile player in the travel and hospitality industry.
Nick Bosworth, Director of Marketing, Brand, and Loyalty at Choice Hotels EMEA, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting, “It’s fantastic to be further expanding the rewards and opportunities available to the 65 million Choice Privileges members for their travels with this new agreement.”
Final Thoughts
The addition of Choice Hotels to the Avios programme not only spices up your options for cashing in on those well-earned points.
Besides hotel stays, you can earn Avios through everyday spending with the American Express BA credit card, or by shopping through the BA shopping portal, where a variety of retailers contribute points with every purchase. Frequent flyers can also earn Avios directly through flights booked with British Airways and its partners. All these channels combine to offer a strong portfolio of options for earning points, giving you more flexibility and freedom in planning your travels.
You're fueling future flights with each point earned, whether the priority is stacking up stays or swiping your American Express BA credit card. Don’t forget to check BA reward flight availability on Reward Flight Finder (RFF).
