News

Qatar Airways has announced its plans to launch the second generation of its revolutionary Qatar Qsuite in 2024, named Qsuite Phase 2. This move comes as part of the airline's strategic decision to phase out First Class seats across its fleet.

The Background

Qatar Airways has long been at the forefront of innovation in the airline industry. The airline redefined Business Class travel with the introduction of the original Qsuite, which provided a level of privacy, space, and luxury that was previously unheard of. The Qsuite's unique features, such as sliding doors for each suite, customisable ambient lighting, fully lie-flat beds, and a dine-on-demand service, quickly garnered acclaim from travellers worldwide. It blurred the lines between Business and First Class, providing passengers with an experience that rivalled, and in some cases surpassed, what was available in the more expensive cabin class.

The airline has always prided itself on bucking trends and charting its own course, with a focus on what truly matters to travellers. This approach has paid dividends, as evidenced by the success of the Qsuite, which has not only won numerous awards but has also become a key factor in passengers' choice of airline for long-haul flights. The Qatar Airways Qsuite has upstaged and even dethroned the traditional First Class experience which passengers have come to expect while travelling via Avios reward flights.

The New Launch

The upcoming Qsuite 2 is expected to push the boundaries even further. While specific details of the new product are yet to be revealed, Qatar Airways has hinted that it will incorporate even more innovative features designed to maximise passenger comfort and privacy.

The former Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said, “The product design is being produced now, but the airline will not reveal it until the widebody planes equipped with it arrive.”

Qsuite 2 is set to be the jewel in the crown of Qatar Airways' Boeing 777X fleet, taking over from the hugely popular Boeing 777-300 series. The first of the 777-9 models are expected to join the fleet starting in 2025. As Qatar Airways has decided to move away from First Class suites on the 777X, the new Qsuite will step up as the ultimate premium experience at the front of the plane.

This next phase in the evolution of the Qsuite is aligned with the airline's long-term strategy of phasing out First Class seats in favour of an improved Business Class offering. It’s a theory that Qatar Airways has put into practice, and it seems to be working. The success of the Qatar Qsuite proves that there’s a demand for a product that offers the joys of flying First Class without putting a dent in one’s wallet. It also reflects a broader industry trend where airlines are recognising the need to adapt to changing passenger preferences, particularly in the context of long-haul travel.

Impact on Loyalty Members

One of the most significant aspects of this development is the implication for loyalty programme members, particularly those who frequently book Avios reward flights using Qatar Airways Avios. With the advent of Qsuite 2, these travellers stand to gain even more from their accrued points. The improved product not only adds value to Qatar Airways Avios but also improves the overall travel experience for those dedicated to the Qatar Airways and Oneworld loyalty ecosystem.

Final Thoughts

As we look ahead to the launch of Qsuite 2 in 2024, it's clear that Qatar Airways is once again setting the stage for a new era in air travel. As these developments unfold, passengers have much to look forward to, with improved comfort, greater flexibility, and even more opportunities to experience the joys of flying in style.
