British Airways has recently announced the extension of its partnership with Nectar. Now set to continue until 2028, the collaboration allows Avios and Nectar loyalty programme members to exchange points.

As part of the partnership, Nectar members can exchange 400 Nectar points for 250 Avios through the British Airways Club for rewards such as BA reward flights, cabin upgrades, and hotel accommodations. Meanwhile, British Airways Club members can convert 400 Avios into 400 Nectar points.

Since being first announced in January 2021, this exchange between an airline and a supermarket loyalty programme has been well received, earning the title of 'Best Loyalty Marketing Campaign of the Year' at the 2022 International Loyalty Awards with the 'Collect Stories' campaign.

James Howland of Nectar360, which owns and operates Nectar, the UK's largest coalition loyalty programme, said, "We are always looking for new ways to make Nectar even more useful and valuable to our customers. Our partnership with IAG Loyalty and Avios is just one more example of how Nectar continues to add value to customers by giving them opportunities to earn and spend points."

David Black, head of retail, travel and leisure at IAG Loyalty, said, "The enthusiastic response to this partnership from Avios and Nectar members has been fantastic. This extension allows us to continue to provide exceptional value and choice for our members and deliver even more rewarding experiences."

How to Convert Nectar to Avios Points

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to convert Nectar points to Avios points and vice versa:

Step 1: Linking Your Accounts

To begin, link your Nectar account with your British Airways Club account. You can do this by following this link. Remember, you can only link one Nectar account to one British Airways Club account at a time, though you can link to a friend or family member's account.

Step 2: Confirming the Link

Once you've initiated the link, you will receive a confirmation email. You can also verify that your accounts are linked by checking your status on the Nectar website or the British Airways Club Exchange page.

Step 3: Converting Points

After your accounts are linked, you can convert points between them. Navigate to the conversion page on either the Nectar or British Airways website to start this process. If you choose, you can set up auto-conversion, which automatically converts all your points weekly.

Step 4: Understanding Conversion Limits and Increments

As of 2026, British Airways and Nectar have removed all previous monthly and quarterly conversion limits, making transfers more flexible.

  • Conversions must be in increments of 400 points for both Nectar points and Avios.

Auto-conversions also occur in increments of 400 points.

Step 5: Managing Your Linked Accounts

You can change the accounts you have linked up to four times per year if you need to adjust which accounts are connected.

It's important to note that the conversion rate is asymmetric:

  • 400 Nectar points are worth 250 Avios.
  • 400 Avios convert back to 400 Nectar points.

How Long Does it Take for the Transfer To Go Through?

Transfers from Nectar to Avios are instantaneous, so you can book flights with Avios immediately after converting your points. However, transferring from Avios back to Nectar takes up to 10 days, a security measure to thwart potential unauthorised activities previously seen with hackers targeting British Airways accounts.

How to Spend Nectar Points

If you're wondering 'how do I spend Nectar points,' several convenient options are available to practically apply your points to everyday expenses. You can shop everything from electronics to home furnishings at Argos and apply your Nectar points at checkout, either online or in-store.

You can also convert your accumulated points into vouchers that can be used to discount purchases across eBay. Nectar points also come in handy at Esso stations, where spending your points directly in-store can offset every fill-up. Other redemption options include Sainsbury's, Dulux Decorator Centre, Café Nero, Tu Clothing, Habitat, and Eurostar. Many British Airways Club members earn Nectar points through the British Airways American Express Credit Card, which offers 1.5 Nectar points per £1 spent on everyday purchases.

Nectar Credit Card from American Express

Many Nectar collectors boost their balance with the Nectar Credit Card from American Express, featuring a 29.1% variable purchase rate (36.3% Cash Advance APR) and £30 ongoing annual fee after year one.

New cardmembers earn 20,000 bonus Nectar points when spending £2,000 in the first three months, plus the first year's £30 fee is on us. You collect 2 Nectar points per full £1 spent everywhere and a minimum of 3 points per £1 at Nectar partners (Sainsbury's, Argos) when using both your Credit Card and loyalty card.

Additional benefits include up to 5 complimentary supplementary cards for family members aged 18+ (you remain responsible for their spending), no balance transfer fees, 2.99% foreign transaction fee, £12 late/return payment fees, and £25 minimum payment due.
