In a major move for 2026, Iberia has officially launched Family Accounts, a feature that finally allows travellers to pool their Iberia Avios into a single, shared balance. This update is a game-changer for anyone looking to reach the threshold for an Iberia reward flight faster, as it allows groups to combine their points without the usual transfer fees or strict residency requirements.

This new feature is particularly useful for groups who might otherwise struggle to reach redemption thresholds individually—for example, families planning long-haul Iberia award flights or large group experiences funded with points. By pooling, you can hit necessary totals faster and redeem rewards more flexibly than ever before.

What is the Iberia Family Account?

The Family Account allows up to seven people (one administrator and six members) to combine their rewards. Unlike British Airways, which requires members to live at the same address, Iberia is remarkably flexible. You can pool your Iberia Avios with family, friends, or even colleagues, regardless of where they live.

How pooling works

  • Automatic Integration: Once the account is active, all members’ existing Avios balances, plus any Avios earned from that point forward, are added to the shared pool.
  • Technical Linking: While Avios remain technically linked to individual accounts for record-keeping, they are shown and used as a single, common Family balance.
  • Shared Redemption: Any adult in the Family Account can redeem Avios for reward flights or experiences without needing approval from other members.

Account administration and control

While redemptions are shared, management of the group is centralised to ensure security:

  • The Administrator: Only the administrator has the power to add or remove members or close the Family Account entirely.
  • Invites: You can invite up to six others using their Iberia Club or Iberia Kids numbers.
  • Verification: For security, invited members must accept within 7 days and confirm the administrator's date of birth to finalize the link.

Iberia Family Account vs. BA Household Account

While both airlines are part of the IAG family, their pooling systems have distinct differences that savvy travellers should understand.

FeatureIberia Family AccountBA Household Account
ResidencyMembers can live anywhere in the world.Members must live at the same address.
Booking for OthersCan book for anyone freely.Limited to household or "Family & Friends" list.
Redemption RightsAny adult member can redeem.Any adult member can redeem.
Flexibility12-month minimum stay for members.Changes allowed every 6 months.

The Verdict: The Iberia Family Account is significantly more flexible. If you have friends or extended family across different cities, this is the superior way to manage your Iberia Avios to secure those premium Iberia flights.

Important rules to remember

  • The 12-Month Lock: Once a member joins, they are committed to the account for one year. You cannot be removed or leave voluntarily before this period ends.
  • Pro-Rata Deductions: When you book an Iberia reward flight, the system deducts points proportionally from each member’s individual balance based on their share of the total pool.
  • Status Protection: If at least one member has Silver status or higher, the pooled Avios won’t expire—otherwise, standard expiry rules apply.

By utilising these new Family Accounts, you can strategically plan your next Iberia flights and maximise the value of every point earned across your entire circle. Your travel goals are now much closer in reach whether it's a short-hop across Europe or a long-haul Iberia award flight to South America,
